I just watched Dark Knight last night and thought Heath was magnificent. It was the first Batman movie I've seen so I can't honestly say who was better.
Heath was amazing...the movie became far more interesting when he was on screen. But I was surprised at how much I liked the movie. I didn't love Maggie Gyllenhaal, though, and thought Christian Bale was great (except for the annoying Batman voice).
I definitely didn't like Jack Nicholson. I didn't like the way they redid Batman's history to make him the same guy who killed Bruce's parents. And he was too over the top.
I wasn't that thrilled with Heath Ledger's Joker either, but Elie explained that his Joker was probably based on "The Killing Joke" which is way past the time I stopped following comics. At least that seems defensible.

To me: Heath was more natural. Jack was more entertaining.

They were both excellent,...different.
In any event, Christian Bale is by FAR the best Batman. Although I liked Batman Begins better than The Dark Knight.
I bet that Jack made a lot more money than Heath did. I had heard it was around $50 million for Jack when all was said and done.

Bale is the best of the Batmen. I liked both movies, not sure if I have a favorite. Have to think about it.

If I remember correctly Jack's deal included a percentage of all of the toys and items that came from the movie.
