Foreign Currency- Looks Like Monopoly Money to Me

(originally posted here)

Call me what you will, but every time I see foreign currency I can't help but think of it being Monopoly money. It is hard to take it seriously, especially those wacky Canadians and their looneys and tooneys.

A pocketful of those and you'll weigh an additional 18 pounds beyond your standard weight.

No worries us Canadians and Europeans with our monopoly money are safe in the knowledge that the most counterfieted money in the world is copied printed and circulated south of our border. (-:

Although euro bank notes already include such security features as holograms, foil stripes, special threads, microprinting, special inks and watermarks, the ECB believes it must add further protection to keep the euro from becoming the currency of choice in the criminal underworld, where the U.S. dollar is now the world's most counterfeited currency.

The new $10 bill looks like monopoly money to me. I don't often get tens, for some reason (mostly 'cause everything in NYC is so stinkin' expensive it uses up most of a $20 when I buy something), so they really look strange to me. The first time I got one, I had to really look at it, because I thought it was fake.

You folks are so attached to your old green backs (-:

I think they're green because of the centuries of MOULD growing on the plates that print them.

Smile - I know you're catching up I have seen and used the new bills.

Susanne,

Aghhhhhhh a moment of nostalgia!

I've been in Los Angeles for less than two weeks and the money here is driving me nuts. I didn't realize it back home (maybe I realized this last fall and then forgot about it again) but I actually rely pretty heavily on the color coding for identifying what is what. Here every time I pull out a wad of bills I'm completely lost because they're all the same color and I can't just jump to a 20.

Anyhow I'm sure I'll adapt and even learn to love the green stuff!

The last time I was in the States, I traveled via Europe and Canada, and so arrived with a wallet full of Israeli shekels, Euros, Canadian dollars, and US dollars.

I had a lot of fun figuring exchange rates in my head, and giving wacky currencies at the video store, the bar, the drug store...
