But the comments he made in a recent interview make me wonder what the hell is wrong with him. Take a look at this interview:
I agree that most people are good. I don't believe in original sin or the idea that we are all naturally sinners. But I also believe that there are evil people in the world and Hitler ranks right up there.Remarkably, Will believes everyone is basically good.
"Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'let me do the most evil thing I can do today'," said Will. "I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good'. Stuff like that just needs reprogramming.
It is patently wrong to try and excuse Hitler's actions by saying he did what he thought was right. You don't excuse the rapist by saying that she asked for it and you don't excuse mass murderers by saying that they thought that they were doing the right thing.

I believe it's called SCIENTOLOGY
Perhaps his point was that "doing what you think is right" is pointless without a set of moral laws governing those thoughts.
Okay, retract that.
I just followed the link and read his quote in context. Nevermind. He had no point.
Pretty scary if you ask me.
CM,
Is he a part of it.
JF,
I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that there is a "context" for these comments that makes sense, but I haven't found it. And frankly that concerns me.
Therapydoc,
It is very frightening.
It's kinda a hard to figure out what he must have been asked to get that response. but his point seems to have been that people don't think that what they do is evil, even if objectively it is -- more or less what juggling frogs said in hir first comment.
It might be stupid, but I'm betting the stupidity was more or else the fault of the media who asked it. I've been asked questions that when my answers appeared in print looked completely inane also, and really didn't have anything to do with what was *actually* asked.
supposedly he is not a Scientologist, although he has spoken about studying it with Tom Cruise. "reprogramming" is the word he used for Hitler. Sounds a bit Scientologist to me. I just think that like many stars, they ought to stick to acting, and not make us privy to their views.
Will Smith is full of crap.
Happy Holidays to you Jack.
I agree with Cruisin-mom. The "stars" ought to stick to what they know, and politics/philosophy/psychology usually isn't on that list.
Hopefully, he's looking at the interview and saying, "Damn, that's not what I meant to say!"
There are a lot of stupid people out there.
Like Will Smith.
There are a lot of people out there for whom the Holocaust has no impact except in a past historical context. And so it's easy for them to say stupid things about it.
Like Will Smith.
There are a lot of people out there that should stick to the stupid shit they know.
Like Will Smith.
Will Smith is a stupid shit who knows acting, and he needs to shut the fuck up about the Holocaust.
What the fuck makes actor/Scientologists experts on everything from genocide to psychiatry, just because they are given a soapbox by the media???
I agree with Kol Ra'ash Gadol.
, but I'm betting the stupidity was more or else the fault of the media who asked it
It is possible. Those sorts of questions require a careful and thoughtful response. It is not clear whether he did that or not.
CM,
I hear you.
Brian,
Merry Xmas to you. Hope that you have thawed out.
Michael,
Yep.
Mark,
I like someone who is not afraid to share their opinion.
MW,
Understood.
