Ok friends. It is time for a new question.
Do you have to force yourself to blog? Is blogging a chore, a responsibility or something that you do for fun?
For a list of posts that ask similar/related questions/comments about blogging try the drop down menu entitled BLOGGING on the right side of the page.
I look forward to hearing from you.

No, I don’t force myself to blog, but I rather enjoy it. it’s turned into sort of a hobby. I love to see how people respond to my Rants, my humor and my opinions.
And it also has become sort of a kinship with other bloggers. And that has bemoce fun.
Hi ya, Jack. No, I don't force myself to blog, I'm compelled to do it, but for the past year or so, I have not minded if I missed a day, although I will not allow myself to miss more than a day, if possible. I wouldn't say that blogging with Smooth Stone is fun all the time, because the premise is always to defend and to articulate and to identify and to educate, but I do have other blogs that I write for that are not political, and they are more fun, although I don't spend as much time working on them as I would like.
Yes and no. It's Newton's laws when I am writing it's no problem, when I stop it's tough to get started again.
Sometimes I feel a sense of obligation of sorts... But only when I am really busy. Like now... ;)
I'm also compelled to blog. Some days I think I'll take the day off, then I hear the news and I'm back at it.
Have done but now if I don't feel like it, I won't blog. It was something I started for fun, as a creative outlet and forcing myself to post isn't good, it feels like a burden instead of something enjoyable if that happens.
Jack, I also enjoy blogging and feel like I'm missing something if I'm sick or miss a day & are unable to post. Blogging is a great outlet for expressing yourself on topics you can't speak to people about in person. I also really miss reading other people's blogs if I'm unable to get online.
For me blogging is a form of therapy. Sort of an emotional purging. And hey! it's cheaper than a therapist right?
Sometimes, Jack, I do force myself. There are times when I realize I haven't blogged in a while and I go looking for material. Other times, when I think I just have to say something, I will blog because I think I must. But mostly I blog for fun. I feel the urge to look into something and I start researching. As a writer this is normal, I guess, and I enjoy it.
DD2,
It is always easier to be successful when you are doing something you enjoy.
Smooth,
I would imagine that after a while some of your material can leave you feeling worn out.
Misanthrope,
Got to keep the boulder moving. It is too hard to keep starting over.
Richmond,
Busy keeps you out of trouble. ;)
Debbie,
I feel that way sometimes.
Sarah,
It shouldn't feel like a burden. The day that blogging is no longer enjoyable will be the day that I hang up my keyboard.
Oxmyx,
I understand. That makes sense.
T. marie,
This is definitely my therapist.
Benning,
I hear you. Sometimes when I feel like my fiction is not progressing I force myself to write a few paragraphs to see if I can open the floodgates.
it's not the blog...i love to blog...it is the visitng and answering and checking to see what other bloggers wrote about your comments...it became a morning's activity...and i simply don't have the time...so i stopped...and got a gazillion emails and comments worrying about me...how very nice...so i compromised...i write my blog and when i have the time i go visit other bloggers...and i rarely comment on the comments...no time...sigh...the guilt the guilt
I blog because it's fun. I write political posts because my wife would rather not hear me rant off like that, I write occasional "life in Israel" because I think that people will be interested, and I write personal posts because, well, my life is cool, right?
And it doesn't bother me much if I miss a day or two.
Until recently, I did. I originally set up my blog as something I felt obliged to do, in the middle of the Lebanon War last summer. But the burn-out resulting from the compulsion made me take long breaks in the past few months, so I decided it would be better to let go, to blog with no schedule, to post when it comes. There are breaks that way, but not so long as before.

I understand. It is hard.

That is good. It is something that some of us have trouble with.
ZY,
Sounds sensible to me.
Sometimes I admit, I have to search for that elusive "thing" to write about. Other times I can sit here and scribble all day.
Ask my wife :)
Ask my wife :)
What is her email address? ;)
