Folks I have tried hard not to remark on the JIBs but I just can't refrain any longer. The real point of the JIBs is to promote Jewish/Israeli blogs, to help provide greater exposure than currently exists.
The thing that I have always found distasteful about the JIBs is the campaigning that takes place. Some people are so concerned about winning all they lose their ability to blog about anything else.
But if winning means that much to you than I guess that is how it goes.

Hi Jack,
Yes, I've noticed that every 3rd blog is about JIB's. It is a little odd to me,but to each their own. It is nice for people to get acknowledgement from others. Personally, when I find myself linked on Technorati, or see my numbers go up for the day, I feel pleased. I'm easy that way I guess.
By the way, what was the "whoa" comment in reference to on TGs blog?
What get's me are the people who not only nominated themselves but keep posting on their blogs, that we should vote for them.
not so kool imo.
I agree.
Those people suck.
Vote for me!
i'm trying not to let my blog become all about the JIB's but i did think it was worth a mention (or two).
i wasn't planning on being involved until someone nominated me.
but i voted for you ;)
and if anything, the JIB's have helped increase traffic to my blog.
Jack,
this is such an old conversation I think I see a patch of mold growing on the comment moderation box.
with that said, you know how I feel about this. What your saying is true and I personally don't think people should talk about it non stop and ask for votes over and over again.
.... but I think one post just mentioning the awards and which categories you were nominated is ok.
Whats cool about the Jibs is that everyone basically takes something from it. If your in it to win it, great, I'm glad that gets you going, I hope you get tons of traffic and new readers. If your in it to find new blogs, well, then you've already won. If you're in it to help other bloggers get recognized, again, great.
In the end, life inside the screen or outside of it, is just one big popularity contest anyway.
Harley and I were thinking of stumping for our own nomination on the JIB's, but we felt that it was sort of silly. I mean, we got the nomination because people like our blogging, so maybe we should just continue to blog?
By the way, what was the "whoa" comment in reference to on TGs blog?
He didn't tell you.

Let's run them out of town.
Those people suck.
Vote for me!
Alright funny man, no more cracks from you. ;)
i'm trying not to let my blog become all about the JIB's but i did think it was worth a mention (or two).
That is reasonable.

Nah, that is just some fuzz in your beard. ;)
... but I think one post just mentioning the awards and which categories you were nominated is ok.
Agreed.
we got the nomination because people like our blogging, so maybe we should just continue to blog?
Exactly.
I appreciate the JIBs even though I'm not voting in them. I've found some good blogs there that I didn't even know existed.
Tamara: Bulls-eye on the Technorati thing.
The JIBs are corrupt and so are you.
I agree. It's silly. Vote for me and I'll never mention it again.
BTW, I suspect that the blogs with the most votes in this thing are ones written by IT pros who have access to dozens of IP addresses every day.
Just sayin'. Did I mention vote for me? Just kidding. I'd have nothing to wear to the awards ceremony.
I am so all over this post. I actively avoid all JIB-related matter. Because of the campaigning, I don't find the results to be valid. I don't have anything against the theory of them...just the ultimate practise.
Liorah,
They are good for that.
PT,
I hear you.
Judi,
So you'd buy a new dress.
Z,
Harrumph.
I'm not running out to the store today, Jack. Yid with Lid (obviously a busy computer repair guy) has the whole thing sewn up. Meanwhile, I have no friends and no access to multitudes of computers with unique IP addresses.
I'll just curl up at home with a bottle of Stoli and watch it on TV, thanks.
Judi,
Move over and break out another glass. I am thirsty.
I'm sure that I'm one of those blogs that Tamara and TG have in mind -perhps that's why they haven't commented on my Blog recently :-)
But while pushing the JIBs does take away from the very purpose for which they were made -that is blogging itself, they do give great exposure, are fun, and help unite us mariners of the Jblogosphere. I feel it truly does draw us all little closer, and for that the 'vote for me's from which we suffer are worth it.
Mottel,
Sorry dude, I didn't turn my voter registration card in early so I too am sitting on the sidelines. As far TG, you'll have to take that up with him yourself )
Mottel,
Good point.
