"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Microsoft announced Thursday that chairman and co-founder Bill Gates will transition out of a day-to-day role at the company, effective July 2008, to spend more time working on his charitable foundation.
Gates will then work part-time at Microsoft (up $0.19 to $22.07, Charts) as chairman and technical adviser and will work full time for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the organization he founded with his wife, which focuses on global health and education."I've decided that two years from today, I will reorganize my personal priorities," Gates said during a news conference, adding,"I have one of the best jobs in the world."
"I believe with great wealth comes great responsibility - the responsibility to give back to society and make sure those resources are given back in the best possible way, to those in need," he said. Gates added, "It's not a retirement, it's a reordering of my priorities."
He seems like a good guy and I respect the work that he is doing. If you read the entire article and not just the section here you'll see that his foundation has more than $29 billion in assets.
Wow.
Here is a man who has helped to change the world and can easily continue to do so.

Jesus said that it's easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. When asked if that was indeed impossible, he replied, with G-d all things are possible. I'm very proud of the way Bill Gates has begun to take his responsibility as the world's richest man more seriously.
Cheers, Jack.
I saw a documentary on the early years of computers on PBS a few years ago, the Microsoft / Gates story is fascinating, he is without a doubt one of the more amazing individuals we've seen recently.
I just wish he would do something with his hair.
Agreed.
He is really an awesome and inspirational (and very rich) man.
I once heard a radio commentator ask: Who has done more for the world, Bill Gates or Mother Theresa?
The answer is obviously Bill Gates. Even without the charity, just think of how many jobs he has created around the world, directly and indirectly. Judaism understood years ago what modern liberals fail to grasp: If you take all the money away from those who know how to make it, then everybody loses, especially the poor.
Houston,
Me too. It is nice to see what he is doing with his money.
Saus,
Absolutely.
CM,
When we have lunch next week I'll let him know.
BFC,
:)
TJF,
Excellent point.
And he even channels Stan Lee!
Maybe he secretly wants to be Peter Parker.
