I come bearing questions this morning. I am sure that many of you encounter comments and questions about why you blog. It is a topic that I have covered before and will cover again.
Right now I want to spin off of that and ask a couple of questions.
- If you were introducing someone to blogging what blogs would you recommend that they read?
- What are your current five favorite blogs and why?

Depends on their interests I guess, but if I thought that they were interested in the blogs that I like, I would tell them:
1) Pearlies of Wisdom - Wonderfully written, where Pearl displays a sense of vulnerability and good taste.
2) Mirty's place - Great place where Mirty, through her stories, lets us get some insight into the journey she took, the growth she experiences, and the frustrations of modern-day living.
3) Ask Shifra - Funny, common sense approach to life. And Shifra is very responsive to emailers and commenters.
4) In My Humble Jewish Opinion - Michelle shares her thoughts about life and judaism. Although her bais yaakov background shines through too often, I enjoy reading (and disagreeing with) about life from the Brooklyn Bais Yaakov side of the fence
5) The Muqata - I recently started readin this one, and I have been enjoying the posts as Jameel writes about life in Israel.
If I was introducing someone who liked politics I would send them in a different direction, but for now, these are my five.

There are more on my blogroll, but I didn't want to take up your entire comment space.
Instead of recommending any specific blogs, I would encourage the person to explore my blogroll and interact with my commenters on their blog. That way the person would find whatever he/she is really interested in, not just the thought I put in his mind. Of course, if the person showed specific interests (politics, J-blogosphere, personal blogs, etc.), I would point out all blogs in my blogroll that fit into that category. But I don't have "favorites"; I read all the blogs, and comment whenever I have something to say. I purposely didn't categorize my blogs as favorites, and just left them in alphabetical order.
I don't know if I can come up with five, and that for the same reasons that Irina states. I read all the blogs on my blogroll and they're in alphabetical order.
I will make an exception and point to one that I really absolutely love right now not only for the writing, which is just incredible, but also for the quality of its comments, and that blog is I Blame the Patriarchy.
My favorites right now (present company excluded) are:

1.) Lena @ The Cheeky Lotus - She's funny enough to do stand up and not get booed.
2.) Virenda @ The Green Straw - Again with the funny stuff. She mainly dishes on celebrities, and is often quite witty.
3.) Harvey @ Bad Example - He's funny, intelligent, sociable, helpful, and romantic. He writes a love note (to his wife) on a daily basis (which is posted on his blog).
4.) Christa @ Awful Souls - She's an artist and a writer; both of which she does well. She has some fun "Play With Me" games on her blog. And, she is quite friendly and helpful.
5.) Last, but not least, you, Jack. Although I may not comment every day, I am here ... absorbing every word. Well, except for any political stuff (my attention span wans then). You have excellent communication skills and a wonderful imagination. I haven't met a blogger/writer yet that can compare to your magic. I admire your intelligence, clever wit, and your seemingly endless supply of thought-provoking topic material. Every visit here is an enjoyable one, and the list of reasons why are never ending, always growing.
And um ... I'm wondering if you're cawana?
Renegade Rebbetzin - her blog was the reason I got involved with blogging in the first place
Jewschool - Good for a laugh, and I usually find something there to send on to my friends
Orthomom - I like her take on what's going on, and more than that, the debate in the comments she gets is always really stimulating
humaninbox.blogspot.com - I don't know where he finds all the stuff he pulls from the web, but it's fascinating and fun
thesuperficial.com - because deep down I'm an evil person who has no soul
and if I can add an obvious sixth, I want to add yours, Jack - you were the first person ever to comment on my blog, and now I always seem to check in with you first... :)
I would have to agree with Air Time - it would have to depend on the guests. Personally, I tend to gravitate towards the women bloggers. There is something about their writing that I feel connected to - so those that have been mention already, I would also have to agree. Saying that though, the two bloggers that I would recommend for a first time reader would be:

I think they both appeal to a diverse audience. Trep is very intelligent, trustworthy, and personable. Citzen of the Month is just hysterical.

Blogging is something that I really enjoy and I try to learn from everyone I encounter.
You may recall the post in which I asked how many blogs you read. One of the reasons was curiosity and this is a natural offspring of that.
Few bloggers can hold a person's attention for an extended period of time. My own blog is no different. I fully expect that people will hang out for a while, disappear and then hopefully reappear.
In any case, I appreciate your input and am looking forward to checking out some of your recommendations.
