"In a photo provided by The White House, President Bush stands with members of the Northwestern University women's lacrosse team during Championship Day at the White House, Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in Washington. The photo shows four of the nine women in the front row wearing flip-flop sandals. The choice of footwear has prompted a mini-controversy, with family members and some other players insisting the summer footwear staple was too casual for a visit with the president. Tznius issues over feet and not a word said about those tops, oh my.

People do not know how to dress themselves anymore, it is clear.
There is such a thing as daywear, and eveningwear.
And then, as we have here, there is beachwear. And that includes some of the tops.
Cripes.
Etiquette and appropriate dress to me are just vestiges of old world noble behaviour. These are students and athletes, casual wear is an appropriate dress for them. Whatever happened to being true to yourself, over doing what society would have you do?
If they are not nude what does it matter?
Did their flip-flop sandals harm the president?
He probably enjoyed the um "tops"
This is actually very interesting, it puts to bed that old theory that you wouldn't wear sandals or shorts "if you were meeting a king/president" with regards to dressing properly when you go to shul. Times they really are a changin'
The times are a changing and it depends on who you are as to whether you think it is for the worse or the better.
Jack, I like that response " The times are a changing ." I think you may be getting the drift of my position on most things. (and Bob Dylan's)
This neo-hippy has little use for Etiquette, so for me things socially if not politically are getting better.
Bill,
I think so.
Must we make an "issue" out of everything? The president has daughters this age and he probably didn't even notice their footwear. They think they look good! They have the confidence to meet with the president as themselves. This is who they are. I am sure it was a very enjoyable meeting for all involved.
Cindra
Cindra,
This started all because of an email sent by one of the girls brothers. For all we know he was just trying to tease her.
