I am just disappointed. All of the things that I have read regarding both candidates reminds me that I still do not like either.
There is something wrong with feeling like you have to vote for the lesser of two evils. It is like being set up on a date by a friend. She/he tells you nothing but good things about the person you are going out with. They show you a picture and between the description and the picture you are truly excited to meet them.
And then they show up and you find out that the picture is before they ate their way through Vegas/underwent a bad hair transplant/got hit by a bus, you get the picture. Of if you are like me you look at the hot girl in the picture and think that G-d is really smiling down upon you as you are about to go out with a supermodel who has brains and really likes you.
And then you find out that the supermodel is not your date, it is the woman standing behind her. Disappointment.
Enough of the silly descriptions. The point is that we deserve better than this and we can do better than we have. I demand it and so should you. It is time to rethink and re-evaluate how things work.
No need to reinvent the wheel, but we can improve how it functions. More on this later.

I am so torn, but agree with you on this assertion, as I am sure most people do. Why we don't do anything about it? I have no clue. Probably because, in all reality, we don't really have much input to it... I am not trying to portray an external locus of control, just reality.

I guess I am an idiot, I have been oscillating from one extreme to the other... From Kerry to Bush, from Bush to Kerry.
But three months ago I stated the following, "You cannot tell me that these are the best possible choices that we have to lead our country!"
I stand behind that. We need someone like Jack Welch, a business man who is not scared to cut off hands if need be... who understands the double-entry accounting system. Or Martha Stewart, even...
This dude probably wasted a couple of votes on Perot. But I have a kindship with the "do-ers" of the world, not for those that automatically assume that other will do for them... and that is what we have in there now!
None of these things are permanent, our complaints can be fixed. It is a matter of digging in and working from the inside out to affect the thinking about what and who we need.
Ricknight: "Americans don't want to be lead by the good and decent, they want to be lead by heros and g-ds, and that image can only be a manufactured one."
As an American, I resent this remark. Not only is it wrong, it is mere spin. Are you an American? If not, please don't presume to know who I want to lead the country and for what reasons.
April,
The good news is that even with bad candidates or candidates that we think are less than capable there is the knowledge that they will not be there forever.
We can mobilize and push for change. Some of these things are going to be somewhat cyclical.
And as for living here now, well there are some problems, but we still have a better standard of living than the majority of the world and that is with our current challenges.
