At what point does a person have "enough" money? I have heard that Warren Buffet was quoted answering that question as "one penny more." Still, at what point could Madoff have stole from his clients and then told himself,"This is enough. Now I return to real investment work. Maybe I can make up the money I stole before anyone notices." I'm a happy person making less than $25,000 a year. (Car payment and mortgage, but no kids.) Could someone like Bernard Madoff have ever been happy on my salary? What drives a person to continue to steal when he has more money than he knows what to do with?
Check out a funny take on Madoff hiring John Thain to decorate his prison cell @ http://www.thelintscreen.com
I just hope the authorities go after everyone and everything that has helped this fraud survive.
I think it will be a grave mistake if Bernard Madoff is allowed to be out pending sentencing. It is most likely he will die when his family and lawyer will report that he would have died of something like heart attack but simply a form of suicide. From medical and psychological stand points he is well fitted in this profile. Then autopsy and toxicology will be prevented by legal maneuvering. Do you remember Kenneth Lay in Enron scandal?
Anon,
His behavior was simply shameful.
Patrick,
Normally I charge people to put up an ad on my blog.
M,
They all need to be punished for this. It is so very wrong.
Anon,
I think that someone like him is going to find life in prison to be incredibly difficult. Wouldn't be surprised if it shortened his lifespan.
