It is hard to daven when a three year old is tugging on my tallis. It is even harder when she grabs my crotch and tells me that I have a penis because I am a boy and she doesn't because she is a girl.
I suppose that I deserved that. She should have gone to childcare, but she screamed and begged to stay with daddy. She looked so darn cute that I agreed to let her stay for a bit. Truth be told she was good for quite some time.Eventually she got bored and that is when things got interesting.
Some of those tales will have to come later.
I don't care what denomination you belong to, this time of year is when everyone gets hit up for more cash. Donate to the annual/building/school/xyz fund. There is no easy way to ask for money from the members, but sometimes it feels like that is the only thing I hear about.
Truth is that I am one of those people who uses the shul. I get a lot out of it so I am happy to try and give back, but if I feel this way others must also. There has to be a better way.

Shul on the holidays is no place for child. Services are wayyy too long for them.

I say that EVERY year about Little Orieyenta but somehow she always manages to guilt me into letting her stay with me. Let's just say that services seem even longer than ever (if that is possible) when you have a squirmy 9-year old on your lap.
I hear you about the $$. I use our shul A LOT and we are like regular fixtures there, so we like to give financially to the shul as much as possible. It bugs me that they have to do these annual pleas for $$ at this time of year but this is the one time of the year that people who NEVER come to shul show up. The sad thing is that in order to ever be able to think about not making an annual plea around this time of year we would first have to address the issue of those who only come to shul once a year.
Heehee. The little kids go running up to the bima at the end of davening to sing Adon Olam, and Salamander (4.5) was up there holding himself (he had to GO) and doing a step-kick.
