Too Much Time Is Still Not Enough

As a college student I used to hate group projects. My distaste for these assignments stemmed from several experiences that I had.

It was virtually impossible to divide the responsibilities up in a way that was equal. Some member of the team always got to ride our coat tails and that made me a little bit nuts. On a couple of occasions my attempt to finish my project was stymied by other team members who couldn't finish their portions in a timely fashion.

And like so many projects in life the speed of their work dictated how fast we could move to complete the assignment. Sometimes there was a legitimate reason for why they moved so slowly and sometimes there was not.

All I know is that it made me want to tear my hair out. I don't like having projects looming over me. It makes it very hard to relax when I have things unsettled and that brings me to the next comment.

The thing that really sticks in my craw is when I am just swamped with work and find myself with unusable chunks of time. This refers to free time that is too short to use to start a new project but long enough to make me feel like I should be doing something.

Inevitably the agitation I feel fills me full of adrenalin. This only heightens the discomfort. So one of the things that I work on is teaching myself how to just let go and ride the wave. Sometimes the best that you can do is just let the current take you for a ride. Why waste energy fighting when you don't have to.

Easy words to say. Easy words to write. Hard to put in practice.
