If you have been following Matisyahu at all you probably have noticed that there seem to be two distinct crowds. There are the "I love him and his music" followed by the other group which seems determined to pull him down. Maybe there is a third group, maybe there is a middle somewhere in there but I can't seem to find it or maybe I am just not looking hard enough.
I don't think that he is incredible. I like a lot of what I have heard. I particularly enjoy "King Without A Crown" and "Jerusalem." There are probably a couple of others that I am neglecting to mention, but that is not really what this post is about.
What I enjoy most about Matisyahu is seeing a Jew in show business that is not afraid to show that they are Jewish. I am not a Hasid. I am not a BT, not Frum, Not MO either. Right now you can consider me an independent, just like my politics.
But that doesn't change my appreciation for seeing this man go out and say what he feels without trying to apologize for it. It is just refreshing to see.

There are a number of groups who are bound to have it in for him:
1. Chabad bashers
2. Reggae purists
3. People who don't like Reggae
I am glad to own Live at Stubbs, but I wish we were back in the days of LPs with 2 sides, because I find a whole CD of M a bit grating. That means, probably, that the Purists have a point, but I ain't listening to anyone who worships Haile Selassie.
I'll let him know that you want a couple of 45's. ;)
I bought 4 or 5 of Matisyahu's songs last week out of curiosity. You can do that at 99 cents a song. The other guy, Jew da Macabee is more exotic and sounds more,... well Jewish, if you know what I mean.
Houston, you look just like my next door neighbor. And if you are him, put your damn dog inside. I am tired of hearing it bark!
Houston,
I love downloading music. At 99 cents a pop it is affordable and makes it much easier to sample new music.
