Did you ever wonder how soap was developed or who figured out how to make popcorn and that it was good to eat.
At some point in history there wasn't much research to be used to develop new items so I have to imagine that so many things were invented because of mistakes and or accidents.
At the end of 1999 I remember reading a column in which a number of people were asked what the most important invention of the prior 1,999 years. And speaking of 1999, how many people partied like it was 1999. Personally I wanted to party like it was 1859, when you could go out and be a hedonist and not feel badly the next day because you hadn't read a million different articles that suggested that you would die from some horrible disease that you received by living next to powerlines, inhaling secondhand smoke or having been forced to do the Macarena 1,8765 times.
Anyway, Bill Gates suggested that the mirror was one of the more influential items because it allowed people to see themselves and in turn their egos forced them to try and improve their looks.
Interesting.

The beauty of the net is that there is access to a ton of information. Sometimes I enjoy just sniffing around to see what I find.
