Until I entered blog-land, I'd never heard of Matisyahu. But I've seen his name appear on several blogs and the comments are all the same, ie. how people like his music. Is he pretty much just an American thing, and therefore oblivious to me? Or am I just oblivious?! I love good music and just about all music, but I'm not generally so tuned in to the Jewish bands, except perhaps some local ones.
But I did enjoy the Jimmy Kimmel spot -- thanks for the link.
Wouldn't you know it -- just a day after I left my comment -- someone at work, a middle-aged reform Jewish woman, stopped me in the hall to ask "Did you ever hear of a Hassidic rap singer?" I said "Matisyahu?" She lit up -- "Yup, that's the one. My son just sent me a link to him." "Jimmy Kimmel show?" I asked. "Yup, that's the one...never heard of him, either."
Okay, I had one over her -- I'm familiar with the Jimmy Kimmel show.
Isn't the internet great? One heck of a hype machine.
He's a good Reggae act.
