I was very displeased to hear that Bush is in favor of legislation to support marriage, heterosexual marriage that is. I am not interested in legalizing discrimination and that is what this amendment would do.
I have yet to read/hear a coherent argument why gay marriage should be legally banned.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this, too. I do not in any way, shape, or form oppose gay marriage.
But Bush's support of this is not new. I watched his speech in its entirety, and he barely gave it a mention -- only gave it a few sentences. It was merely a nod to the Repubs, but was certainly not the focus of the speech.
The economy, Social Security, the Mideast and the war on terror were what was focused on and will be his primary initiatives.
