Here we go again. Is anyone else concerned about a judge making political statements like this from the bench.
"Circuit Judge Ashley McKathan showed up Monday at his Covington County courtroom in southern Alabama wearing the robe. Attorneys who try cases at the courthouse said they had not seen him wearing it before. The commandments were described as being big enough to read by anyone near the judge."
It is understood and reasonable to believe that your own experience and background will impact how you make judgements within your courtroom, but people should be able to walk in and believe that you will rule based upon the law of the land and not of your faith.
"McKathan told The Associated Press that he believes the Ten Commandments represent the truth "and you can't divorce the law from the truth. ... The Ten Commandments can help a judge know the difference between right and wrong."
This kind of attitude is so offensive. In essence he is saying that if you do not agree with the Ten Commandments you are ignoring the truth. If you are someone who doesn't believe in them how are you supposed to feel when you walk into his courtroom.
"When you're in jail, a good friend will be trying to bail you out. A best friend will be in the cell next to you saying, 'Damn, that was fun'." — Groucho Marx
