A Holiday Wish List- Do you post one?

Dear Readers,

As you know I spend an inordinate amount of time surfing the net and have noticed something that I am curious about. Many people have posted their holiday wish liston their blogs and some have even hinted at asking their readers to purchase these items for them.

I have to admit that I have a certain curiosity about this. For many years I have kidded around with friends about the way to make my fortune. The idea was to ask millions of people for 25 cents. It is a very small sum and something that many people would be willing to give. So if you reach 1 million recipients you end up with a cool $250,000. That is a very decent chunk of change.

The holiday wish list is intriguing to me as well. I put one up, would people want to buy things for me. And if they did, why would they do so? I have to admit that I am a little baffled by the idea of asking strangers to buy books/CDs/movies/clothes/electronics.

Why would they do this for a perfect stranger who might actually be incredibly wealthy and in need of these items. Would you be embarrassed to receive gifts like this? How would you handle sending out thank you notes?

But again my curiosity makes me wonder, would people do it? And just what would happen. I could start a refurbish Jack's Shack campaign in which I asked for these donations and in return I would offer no individual thank you, just my gratitude. At least I think that I could do that, but I am not sure. Part of me is very uncomfortable with that idea.

In my prior post I mentioned becoming a professional blogger. I'd be much more comfortable asking for cash donations to help support the cause. It would be similar to playing a guitar on the street in the hopes that someone would donate.

Just my thoughts, what do you think?

I agree with you Jack.

Personally, I never think less of anyone else for doing it, but I'd feel very strange asking for money/things myself.

I think it's tacky.

It's YOUR blog, so you should go with what feels most comfortable to you. It's akin to your entries... the wisest thing is to always write for yourself first.
