Who wants to be the President of the US?

With the campaign in full swing and young children at home it occurs to me that at some point in the near future my son and I will have the "what do you want to be when you grow up discussion." As a child I can remember hearing from friends/family and teachers that you could grow up to be anything you want to be, even president of the United States.

And now I find myself asking why someone would want to subject themselves to the depravity and lunacy that accompanies this. Why do you want to have your life and character dragged through the mud and assassinated so thoroughly that resurrection is nothing more than a pipe dream you once had.

I am not sure that I want to tell my son or daughter that they can grow up to be president. Because the way things are currently going you cannot live a life that is honest or moral enough to do so. You are human, you'll do something foolish and that will get twisted and distorted into an event that you can no longer recognize.

You'll answer inane questions about what color underwear you prefer and whether you think that hockey is a real sport. People will poke and prod for any little weakness and try to exploit incessantly so that they prove that you are not fit to lead.

And you'll find that it is difficult to try and rise above the fray and maintain your sense of self and dignity. So why would you want this job. Is it worth the aggravation.

Not to mention that regardless of party affiliation it require serious cash and while I am not poor, I am not Daddy Warbucks either. So how are my children supposed to believe that they can do this too, let alone as I already mentioned, I am not sure that I want them to.

Frankly, I am tired of hearing about Bush and his questionable military service during the Vietnam-era. Enough already. If he evaded duty, it is not admirable -- however, it will not cause me to change my vote.

P.S. Your children could always become baseballs. ;)
