"BAGHDAD, 19 September 2004 — Kidnappers of two Americans and a Briton yesterday threatened to behead them unless Iraqi women held at two American-controlled detention facilities were freed within 48 hours. A separate group holding two French journalists said they were freeing them conditionally. In continuing violence, a suicide car bomb attack on Iraqi security forces in the northern town of Kirkuk killed at least 23 people."
