That I didn't ask questions sooner is a very deep regret that I carry. For instance, my paternal grandmother died when she was 33. My father was only 3 at the time. After years of seeking information about her, all that I've been able to find out about her is that she had a beautiful singing voice. I've been told that I resemble her and I ache to know more about her.One Wink at a Timehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00376243777796535015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7082887.post-1139472073031673542006-02-09T00:01:00.000-08:002006-02-09T00:01:00.000-08:00Hi Stace,It is one of those things we share.BF,I s...Hi Stace,

It is one of those things we share.

BF,

I should probably back this up.

GT,

The past affects the present.

Sweet,

That is pretty cool.Jack Steinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16625864271071630940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7082887.post-1139440266135899262006-02-08T15:11:00.000-08:002006-02-08T15:11:00.000-08:00I had heard that what families use to do, was to c...I had heard that what families use to do, was to change their last names and claim to be the only son in order to avoid going into the Army. I am basing that on something I learned a long time ago but I am not clear if it's factual. I agree with Stacey...listening to family histories is very fascinating, especially if told by a good story teller.

My cousin has been very good about keeping up our family tree and one time she got a phone call from a cousin who was visitng Minnesota or Wisconsin. They were doing some antique shopping and pick up an old Jewish bible. I don't know if people still do this, but in the past, there was a tradition of writing down family tree information in bibles. What a shock for this cousin to open this bible up and find it had our family tree listed in it. Those types of stories just give me goosebumps. I love them.... They escaped to avoid the pogroms and once the men were taken into the army, many were never heard from again.Staceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05548101428086781420noreply@blogger.com
