More thoughts on the Post Election Fall Out

Throughout the day I have continued my daily routine of reading blogs and news sources around the world. I enjoy learning about the world around me and hearing what the people have to say about current events, poitics, history, books, film and music among others.

As I surfed today there was a real mix of jubilation and depression throughout blogland. Some people think that the world ended and others think that heaven on earth is around the corner. I think that the truth is somewhere in the middle.

We are in a transitory period. Whether we like it or not life changed on September 11 and we have to deal with it. But realistically life began changing a number of years prior to that. When the Wall fell and the USSR disintergrated we entered a new age and we are still feeling the effect of that.

So right now we have a number of choices in how to behave. We can react to things or be proactive in our behavior. That is something that you can apply to every aspect of life, be it international relations or domestic affairs, including your own.

If you do not like the way things are there are lots of ways in which you can make a positive impact. So stop the whining and get off your ass and do something. And I would add that if you celebrating because your guy won, great, but that doesn't relieve you of your responsibilities either. We are all in this together, our methods are just different.

And if you think that this is preachy and self-righteous, it probably is. So what.

One more observation to share from my snooty perch. During the time in which I surfed around and witnessed the teeth gnashing and partying I found very few examples of cogent arguments about why a person's position was right or wrong. It is a little disappointing to read that Bush is the best because he is or he is the devil because he invaded a country. There is no meat to either of those positions. Just fluff.

Tomorrow is a new day, what will it bring?

I don't believe life changed on 9/11. In fact, I for one wasn't at all surprised on /11. I knew the US had been occupying many countries throughout the world for years for their own gain. The Middle East in particular. How does a mind go from being attacked by Osama to invading and murdering thousands in another country anyway?? I didn't believe that the rest of the world could have such hatred toward a country like the US. Imagine what Bush can do in four more years to that hatred. I believe life changed the day he was elected four years ago. Couldn't believe the majority of Americans picked him over Gore in the first place!! I am dumbfounded that they did it again. Bush was a well known war-like man before the 2000 election took place. Americans' support for his presidency, shows they are marching to a completely different drummer than the rest of the international community. I guess it's a reflection of the profound psychological damage of 9/11. ie...they never thought they would ever get any of their own medicine. Too bad so many innocent people had to die. That country is completely out of step with most of the free world. I mean the US has been creating 9/11's in many parts of the world for centuries. Maggie
