What Are your Favorite Song Lyrics?

I remember telling she who is the song of my heart about my love affair with music. I remember the hours we spent sharing, exploring and learning about new music with each other. I remember a million hours of music and the unadulterated joy we took in sharing it with each other.

Spend a few minutes sifting through the archives and you will find untold numbers of posts that are tied into music in one way or another.

A while back I asked you to share your favorite lyrics with me. I am here to do it again. What moves you? What makes you laugh or cry. Share it here with us.

For some reason, the lyrics of Don Henley's 'Boys of Summer' really 'get' me. I think because I'm quite an imaginative person I can see what he's singing about in my mind's eye, plus it does make me feel nostalgic for a certain summer gone by.... I can feel the sunshine pouring through my window and layingitself over my bare, girlish legs as I write...

One of my many favorites:

Everything Goes to Hell by Tom Waits
Why be sweet, why be careful, why he kind?
A man has only one thing on his mind
Why ask politely, why go lightly,
Why say please?
They only want to get you on your knees
There are a few things I never could believe
A woman when she weeps
A merchant when he swears
A thief who says he'll pay
A lawyer when he cares
A snake when he is sleeping
A drunkard when he prays
I don't believe you go to heaven
When you're good
Everything goes to hell, anyway...

Laissez-faire mi amour, ce la vie
Shall I return to shore or swim
Back out to sea?
The world don't care what a soldier
Does in town
It's all hanging in the windows
By the pound
There are few things
I never could believe...

A woman when she weeps
A merchant when he swears
A thief who says he'll pay
A lawyer when he cares
A snake when he is sleeping
A drunkard when he prays
I don't believe you go to heaven
When you're good
Everything goes to hell, anyway...

I only want to hear your purr and to hear
Ou moan There is another man who brings
The money home
I don't want dishes in the sink
Please don't tell me what you
Feel of what you think
There are few things I never could believe...

Oh, look. I answered your question before I even read it over on my blog.

My favorite song lyric ever, Steve Winwood: "I could light the night up with my soul on fire..."

I have always liked Boys of Summer, it is bittersweet.

Tom Waits has some very good stuff, I liked that.

Higher Love- good memories tied into that.
