I Can't Work Like This

I work hard to live the life that I teach my kids to live. It doesn't make any sense to me to teach them to do one thing and then have them ask why I do the opposite.

That doesn't mean that there aren't times where we play the do as I say not as I do game, but I do my best to minimize it.

Anyway, if you have been following along you know that I have been dealing with some computer issues.

I have two desktops that just aren't working properly and I can't seem to figure out why.

I have run scans to check for spyware and found nothing. The antivirus checks have all been clean too.

They have been defragged and the registries have been checked with TLC.

And still they are not working properly. So I find myself having reached the end of my rope. My patience has worn thin and now I am cursing at these stupid fucking machines.

Remember I said that I try to live the life I teach my children to live. Their abba teaches them to remain calm and run through the checklist of what could be wrong.

Well those kids aren't here right now which is why I screamed in disgust at the stupid fucking machine. I begged it to take a swing at me, just one tiny punch.

I promised that if it did I'd kick its ass right into next week. I swore that I'd punch its motherboard right in its fucking mouth.

Of course it didn't respond. It sat there silently mocking me.

I haven't gotten much work done today. Been too busy wrestling with these fercockteh machines. Been too busy trying to figure out why they are doing this.

If I had the cash I would junk them and buy two new units. I am so frustrated I can barely look at them.

But old mother hubbard's cupboard is bare. The damn school tuition took the spare change. The car repair took more and old Phineas Whiplash is threatening to take my first born.

So I am venting here. Making use of a Blackberry and Posterous.

If I can get one of these suckers to work properly I can make magical things happen.

I am so close yet so very far. And now that I have caught my breath I am going to fling myself back into the breach.

If I am not back in an hour check Sully's Tavern. I'll be guy with the bottle and bat attitude. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Nothing frustrates me more than computer/technical problems ... car problems coming in a close second. One suggestion ... wiping the hard drive completely clean after backing up everything and then reinstalling stuff. There are some versions of spyware out there now that you just can't get rid of any other way. Good luck!

TRH,

Nah, as millionaire Bruce Wayne he'd have an IT professional take care of the issue. Unless of course we are talking about the Bat cave 'puter. ;)

24,

I have a sneaking suspicion that I am going to have to reformat the HD again. It irks me to no end to think about it, but...

I hear your pain and feel it. Every darned thing I have touched today has gone wrong. Even my ID pass holder decided to fall apart on me this morning and spill the contents all over the floor.

I am so, so tired of it all....

When your trust fund kicks in (ha!), buy a Mac. All your problems will disappear. I 'converted' 4 years ago and have never looked back. I've never ONCE had any problems. I just get work done. I literally don't think about the computer itself.

Having said that, they are pricey, and it took me over a year to save for it. When I win lotto I'll send you some :-)

Rachel,

There needs to be some sort of law or rule that says that days like you described may only happen once each 26 years.

TRH,

My abba has two Macs and is very happy with them. I use them with some regularity so I am familiar.

I like a lot of things about them, but do not like the software. It just feels off.

But they are pretty cool. Anyway, I can buy two new computers for every one Mac so that has some influence upon this all.

Jack,

totally - they are really pricey.

It does sound like you will have to reimage, if nothing else has worked. I know it's a HUGE nightmare pain in the ass, but a necessary evil sometimes. My laptop makes me want to hurl it through my plate glass window on a daily basis. I've been resisting the reimage, even though I know it will make everything better again. It takes sooooo long, and then you have to put everything you had back on there. I really just want a new one too. Mine is 4 years old, and is used heavily. My space key is starting to give. Grrrr.

TRH,

One day.

AJ,

I am not looking forward to the time it is going to take to fix this ferocockteh problem.

Jack-
That's TRR, not TRH. I am a Linux guy; I won't recommend Mac or Windows.

TRH,

My apologies- see, I was so fershimmeled that I flubbed it. I was thinking that it seemed strange that you would go Mac.

But seeing as I spent hours last night working on these machines and not sleeping my eyes didn't work and I screwed up.

My apologies again. Come to LA and I'll buy you a beer. :)

Not Quite Abandoned

I didn't think it had been as many months away from here as it has clearly been. I was certain I had updated this place in December and ...
