Let's go see what sort of news and analysis is floating around the Net today.

From The Washington Post we have Israeli Forces Push Farther Into the Gaza Strip.

Also from WAPO Invasion Offers Benefits but Also Risks to Both Sides.

The Inquirer.net reports that Indonesian Islamists want to send troops to support Hamas.

Just stellar reporting from CNN. Got to love a headline like this: Palestinian medical sources: 485 now killed in Gaza. That sort of headline feeds the wolves and useful idiots who prattle on about disproportionate response and massacre. It is misleading and unbalanced. Sigh.

The LA Times has an op-ed piece from Michael Oren and Yossi Klein Halevi:

In Gaza, the real enemy is Iran. I want to highlight one section of that essay:

Though civilians have, tragically, been hurt, about three-quarters of the 400 Palestinians killed so far have been gunmen -- an impressive achievement given that Hamas fires rockets from apartments, mosques and schools and uses hospitals as hide-outs.
Israel has recently allowed nearly 200 truckloads of food and medicine to enter Gaza, even under shellfire. It is in Israel's urgent interest to minimize civilian suffering and forestall international criticism. For that same reason, Hamas welcomes the suffering of Palestinian civilians. According to a BBC report on Dec. 30, dozens of ambulances were dispatched by Egypt to its border with Gaza, only to remain empty because, according to Egyptian authorities, Hamas wasn't allowing wounded Palestinians to leave.

Reuters reports that Gaza statement a misunderstanding -Czech minister.
The WSJ Iran's President Has Much at Stake in Gaza Outcome. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll go visit Gaza now.

From JPost Counterpoint: Collective responsibility vs. collective punishment.

And now on to the blogs:

The Muqata and Israelly Cool are liveblogging. So is the IDF Spokesperson. There is a good summary of what has happened at this post and another VLOG from Captain Benjamin Rutland.

This concludes the current round up. We'll be back a bit later with more updates.

what really making me mad is the way the Palestinian spokespeople keep referring to the injuries as 3,000 killed or injured. How misleading is that type of description?

Also - and I'm not saying a lot of people aren't dying in Gaza, but, where are these numbers from? How are we trusting that the numbers aren't much higher than in actuality?

You missed Gaza News and Commentary.

How can Israel be expected to just sit there and take it? Where was the outrage about the rocket launches into Israel? If that was the U.S., they wouldnt exist anymore. Why should Israel not defend themselves? It makes no sense to think the Palestinians are gonna abide to a cease fire when they NEVER have! Maybe if they are gonna act like roaches they should be treated as such. You cant reason with "people" when their lifes mission it is to kill you no matter what.

Go Israel is all i have to say if another country or for that matter a inside faction attacks my hometown killing women and children I would expect my government to do the same. To those who are protesting where were your yells of atrociates when Israel has been getting atacked constantly .... they have been patient enough time to lay down the hammer hard I feel for their soldiers though its going to be rough as with al fights with fanatics.

I wonder what are these boys going to grow up to be. Lets see their house was bulldozed over for perhaps an illegal jewish settlement. No food, water, power, medication! NO HOPE! and that was before the Raids and ground attacks. 80% unemployment rate. This is accepted genocide. what do you expect those people to do? I dont support hamas and the rockets. Take hamas out of the equation and the country would still be in peril!

It's a vicious circle. Israel is firing rockets, because Hamas is firing rockets. Hamas is firing rockets, because it blames Israel for Palestinian suffering. but Israel will not give more freedom to Palestinians, while it feels endangered by them.
This attack will finish in few weeks. And another one will happen there or on some other place again in few months...and again...

Chaim,

I don't trust the numbers at all. Too much history with Faxutography. And since the terrorists dress as civilians it is hard to identify who is who.

Anon,

You just did. ;)

I hear you.

Tanedor,

Mojo,

That is a big leap of faith your making there. Better make sure you have something to land on.

Elli,

It doesn't have to continue like this. Hamas can choose to recognize Israel and there might be room to begin talking.

I'd agree with Elli. Frankly, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
